EXRE Colloquium: Giuliano Torrengo’s talk on “The Outer Flow and the Inner Flow” (University of Milan)
Speaker: Giuliano Torrengo (University of Milan)
Title: “The Outer Flow and the Inner Flow” … “Giuliano works on time, considered from different angles (metaphysics, mind, language, etc.). He’s currently writing a book on temporal experience, which is under contract with OUP. He’s at the end of the process and might present some of the materials from the book.”
Date & Time: Wed, 01 Mar 2023, 17:15-19:00.
Dear all,
You can download “here” the draft of the chapter that Torrengo will present next week. He would be happy to have it circulated internally, just among the people in the EXRE group. You do NOT need to read the article to participate and follow the presentation. It is simply for those who are interested in reading the paper in advance. You can also read a very short abstract of his presentation below.
Best,
Davood
Abstract
In this talk I discuss the idea of an awareness of succession of one’s own experience as something distinct from the awareness of movement of change of the things around us. I tackle several of its purported features, such as its smoothness, and the fact that it pertain both to the outward directed and inward directed experience. I will defend an account according to which our experience is discontinuous and dis-unified in many respects, although we tend to describe it as continuous and unified.
Dear all,
Just a quick reminder about the first session of our EXRE Colloquium this semester, which takes place tomorrow: we’ll have the pleasure of hearing Giuliano Torrengo’s talk on “The Outer Flow and the Inner Flow” at 17:15, room MIS02 2120.
Best,
Davood
